The Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin and The Farm Midwives

Birth Story is a documentary film about Ina May gaskin, The Farm Midwives and the women who birth there. The film was made by two Mamas and is now at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
I just found out that another viewing has been added for tonight, June 23rd. Oh how I wish I could go! If you're in the LA area, check it out! If you're not, you can still give to support this wonderful documentary at the link below.

From the site:
In the early 1970s, Ina May Gaskin and the courageous Midwives of the Farm commune inspired the modern midwifery movement. Today, their efforts continue at the Farm Clinic and across the country, working against an ever-growing hospital culture of intervention and C-section births.

Revealing the Midwives’ stories with intelligence and wit, directors Sara Lamm and Mary Wigmore weave extensive archival footage, enlightening interviews and contemporary stories into a beguiling document of past and present. Through Ina May and the Midwives, Lamm and Wigmore portray childbirth in empowering and thrilling ways we’ve never seen before. The result is not just an illuminating documentary, but a joyful rallying call to see humanity through a new lens.

  1. I would love to be able to watch this film. I never wanted to have kids myself but got very inspired by Ana May Gaskin when I heard her on Democracy now! as well as reading John Robbins' book "Reclaiming Our Health" where he damns the male dominated medical industry for taking the power of women to control their babies' birth.
