Homemade Kindness Advent Calendar

kindness advent calendar

I thought it would be fun this year to do an advent calendar and it would be even better if it focused on kindness and paying good things forward. As the children get older, I'm incorporating more service activities into our family and this calendar is a nice way to do that with younger ones.

I wrote out 24 activities on paper and cut them out. I taped them to the back of Christmas tags and then hung them on twine with some weathered clothes pins. You could just write them directly on the tags or glue them down, but I plan on using these again with different activities. We had the twine already and I used clothes pins from our clothesline. I purchased the tags, but you can make the tags yourself if you don't already have some.

In addition to the activities, 5 of the tags also say "pick a box" on them. The boxes are about 4x4 inches and have small treats in them. Flax and Chia Bars, Temporary Tattoos, Balloons and some Raw Vegan Chocolates.

Examples of activities on the tags:

Tell your family what you like about them, then drink hot cocoa together
Write a nice letter to a friend or family member
Make a care package to send to someone
Make a fun Holiday treat and share it with the family
Watch a Christmas movie and eat popcorn together
Do something nice for the birds, like give them food and water
Go through clothes and give away the ones that are too small

Each day K takes of a tag and does an activity. So far she's having a lot of fun with it!
